9 May 2026 · Design Ashram, Calicut
On 9 May 2026, we hosted the first Folk & Fab Sessions at Design Ashram, Calicut, bringing together 20 people for an evening of art, conversation and community.
Folk & Fab has always been about more than clothing. At the heart of what we do is an interest in culture, creativity and the people who shape them. We believe culture is not something that simply exists around us. It is something we create together, through the things we make, the stories we share, the conversations we have and the spaces we build for one another.
Folk & Fab Sessions grew from that idea.
Sessions is our attempt to create a space where people can come together around art, culture, creativity and conversation. Not necessarily as artists or experts, but simply as people with something to express, experience or share.
For our first session, we called it Forms of Us.
The idea was simple: everyone has their own way of seeing, feeling and experiencing the world. We wanted to create a space where those individual thoughts could take shape without the pressure of making something perfect.
Everyone was given a piece of paper and asked to write or draw whatever came to mind. It could be a memory, a feeling, an object, a word, a place or simply a scribble.
There were no rules, and there was no need to be an artist.
The collaborating artist, Jaydev, then used these individual thoughts as the starting point for one shared canvas. Participants were guided to bring their ideas from paper onto the artwork, with Jaydev helping shape and connect the different contributions.
What began as 20 individual expressions slowly became one piece of artwork.
Different marks, drawings, words and ideas found their place alongside one another. Nothing needed to be perfect. In fact, the imperfections became part of what made the final piece feel personal and alive.
That was the idea behind Forms of Us: bringing different people, perspectives and expressions together to create something that none of us would have created alone.
From Canvas to Something Wearable
The artwork created during Forms of Us was never meant to end on the canvas.
We are currently exploring how this collective piece, shaped by 20 different people and their individual expressions, can take on a new form through apparel.
The idea is to carry the artwork beyond the session and turn something created together into something that can be worn, lived in and taken into the world.
It is still a work in progress, and we're taking our time figuring out what that final form should be.
In a way, the process continues: from individual thoughts, to a shared canvas, and now towards something wearable.
For us, this is what community can look like.
Not a room full of people simply sharing the same interests, but a space where different ways of thinking can exist together, influence one another and become something collective.
This is what we hope to continue building through Folk & Fab Sessions: a growing space for people to meet, create, exchange ideas and experience culture together.
This was Folk & Fab Sessions 001.
And hopefully, just the beginning.
